Little Olympian

Jackie's gymnastics studio had a recital last weekend and Jackie participated again.  With the Olympics occurring simultaneously, the gym themed the recital around the Olympics.  And Jackie was really excited about getting another medal.  At first, she was not pleased with her assigned color/uniform of the color green.  But, her good friend Emilia loaned her a shirt - and that made it all better!

She had a rehearsal the evening before the recital.  That was a big help; she knew what to expect and how it would all go.  But still.... I was worried because the recital was right during nap time.  When we arrived I checked her in and then she went "back stage" all on her own to hang with the teachers and other kids.  I found a seat and worried the whole time about whether she was okay back there; was she looking for me; was she scared, was she crying?

Fortunately she was one of the first groups to perform so I didn't have to wait long to know how she was doing.  First they paraded out with flags like Olympians and we stood for the Anthem.
Then after one group of younger kids, her group was up.  She did great!  She looked beautiful and not too scared.  She performed well and seemed really proud of herself afterwards.  Her group was representing the triathlon, and her coach had taught her to "swim" lying down on the floor.... but the other teachers and kids did it differently, so Jackie had to adjust a bit.  But she was unfazed.

Nana and Papa brought her flowers and she got a metal and stood on a podium - just like she had seen Gabby Douglas and team do just days before.

Be aware, photos are blurry and sub-par because she never stands still and smile and because I am trying to use an iphone instead of buying a real camera.
Even posing with her coach she can't stand still!
