Advent Days 16-20

Day 16: Activity = Go to the zoo at see the Little People Holiday Show.  Chris had the day off and joined us.  The show was pretty disappointing.  We didn't stay for the whole thing.  But Jackie ran into a friend from school and she just enjoyed being at the zoo with mom and dad for a bit.

 Those Little People are huge!

Day 17:  Toy = a little tube of "fake snow" to play with.  It's filled with highly absorbent polymers similar to the ones in diapers.  Add a little water and they fluff up.  Put it in the freezer and it gets cold and icy like snow.  Pretty cool.  Chris and I were so buy trying to get work done we didn't take pictures.  She made a giant mess that day while we left her to play!  One step forward, two steps back.  We thought, she's such a big girl now, she can entertain herself while we work.  We are getting so much done!  Except that the mess I had to clean up totally cancelled out the work I got done!

Day 18:  Mom totally forgets to fill the advent calendar.  Jackie was so sweet about it.  Nicely and gently while I lay in bed half awake she tells me that I forgot.  She says she was looking all over the stockings for the ribbon (I tied almost every gift with a red ribbon and left it sticking out).  So I verbally told her our activity of the day: Make Sugar and Spice Pecans and Cards/Pictures for dance teacher, gymnastics teacher and school teacher. This activity stretched over two days because mom realized she didn't have the egg whites for the pecans.  Oops.  And we rushed out the door to dance and I didn't take a picture of the cute sticker collage that she made for her teacher.  I really had my act together, didn't I!

Day 19: Activity = Grandma takes Jackie to try out an art class.  Jackie has been wanting art classes and Grandma showed her a place called Little Artists here in Poway.  But you have to be 4 years old.  So, now that Jackie is 4 she got to try a class.  Grandma took her and from what I hear she had a great time and was very into it!  I was a little surprised that she took to the more structured environment of formal art classes because she can be so stubborn with me when I try to get her to focus on an assignment.  Jackie is getting art classes for Christmas!

Day 20: Activity = Drop off non-perishable foods at Sheriff's station for food drive.  The local Sheriff's station is right next to school.  And in light of recent events this makes me feel even better.  On this day we walked to the station and dropped off a couple of bags of food.  I would have liked to have had time to fill the bags of food with Jackie, but I didn't plan ahead. Oh well, I hope Jackie got something from this other than the chocolate santa that was also in the advent calendar!
