And it's perfectly suited to Jackie's age and limitations. If you go, there's a state or federal park (can't remember which) where you have to pay to park but have access to bathrooms. And from the parking lot you can walk a very easy flat path to Red Rocks Crossing and surrounding areas. You walk under a canopy of trees, along a small river creek to great areas of flat red rock to lie on, picnic on, and climb all over. I'm sure there are times when the river rages and this area is under water. But this nice spring day was just perfect. We all enjoyed sandwiches we had picked up at a little place in town. And then we took Jackie exploring.
See the two skinny rocks in the middle - they look like a man and woman standing back to back. The first time Chris and I were there, we stood back to back and had our picture taken with that in the background. =)
We walked further along the trails to Buddha Beach where people use river rocks and red rocks to build cairns. Jackie and I put on our river shoes and waded in. After a good while of enthusiastic exploring we walked back to the car. It was about a 1 mile total excursion and mainly flat so it was a good starter hike for a little one. If the water was warmer I'm sure it would be fun to splash and swim too.
This was our first Sedona in Spring - I loved seeing all the delicate little wild flowers. They made me think of my grandmother, Dorty.
Stay tuned because the next day Jackie climbs a vortex mountain so she could see the whole world....
