Ah, that explains it.

I have to admit that although The Field is impressive, we were a bit bored. I don't think we are natural history museum people. Jackie was a bit creeped out by the bones and the dead preserved animals. We also got into this museum free with our local science museum membership, which was awesome. But then they charge extra for all these other exhibits and shows they have there. And when I inquired about them to a few staff members, even they seemed underwhelmed. It really didn't make me want to part with my money. They do have a family play and explore area in the museum but it was closed on the day we went. To sum it up, Jackie was over it quick and we mainly goofed off and yawned while we wandered around the almost empty museum. I did learn some good information about the coral necklace that my grandmother gave me. It's very similar to the one in this picture. Pretty cool!We lucked out and the rain had stopped for a bit when we left the museum and walked down the street to The Adler Planetarium. The views were beautiful! And we really needed the walk and fresh air to wake us up.
Jackie LOVED the Planetarium, even though there were areas that were very dark and a little scary for her. She liked learning about space and her favorite area was a kids play area where she got to pretend to be an astronaut. And get this, we got into this museum for free too! But, you do have to pay extra for the movies in the dome. We picked a movie for kids so it would be more geared towards Jackie. But afterwards we wished we'd just done the more advanced movie instead. We would have liked to have had our minds blown. Next time!
3 - 2 - 1 - Blastoff!
Jackie's nifty carseat harness vest makes her look like she's dressed up to jump out of a plane.... or maybe like an astronaut! Jackie was pretending to be an astronaut the whole rest of the evening. Thank you Adler Planetarium for inspiring her imagination.
Another fabulous view
Jackie was so worn out she fell asleep in the cab. We had the cab take us to a restaurant in our hotel's nearby neighborhood of Boystown to go to a Vegetarian/Vegan restaurant called The Chicago Diner. Jackie was so tired she stayed asleep as we entered the restaurant and we just laid her down in the booth and enjoyed our dinner and beer. Chris said the black bean burger was one of his top two favorite burgers of all time - sharing the honor with another vegetarian restaurant in Ventura, CA. And we aren't even vegetarians!
