Welcome Molly

So in a major case of de ja Vu, I killed another fish. Dancer was "her" name. And she lived a lot longer than the last one. Uncle John gave her to Jackie for her birthday in 2013. And Jackie would often comment that this fish had lived longer than Tancy. But, just like I did last time, after cleaning the bowl quickly and refilling it, I forgot to add in the drops. And the fish was dead within an hour. It was very upsetting for Jackie, as we discovered the sad looking fish when we brushed our teeth for bed. It was a hard bedtime that night. She asked if she could get another fish and told me how much money she had!  Poor sweetheart. Of course I told her I'd buy the new fish since it was my fault.

She woke up the next morning, no sign of tears anymore but reminding me that we are to buy a new fish after school and bury Dancer with Tancy.

Meet Molly:

Of course she picked this soft pink colored one. And of course it was one of the pricier Betas. And she picked out some new colorful rocks for the bowl too.
At first she named the fish Leena. But then in the car as she held the fish in its container she was trying to read the label. The word Male was written there. But she pronounced it as Ma (with a long a) Lee, because she is mainly learning to read spanish right now and her first instinct is to use a spanish vowel pronunciation. I found it super cute and suggested that we name the fish accordingly. She agreed and said it sounded like her old preschool friend Molly and that she couldn't remember the other name she had picked. So thus, her fish was named Molly.

Dancer's burial wasn't too emotional. Jackie inspected the dead fish in its ziploc bag quite thoroughly like a true scientist. And then she dug a little hole near where Tancy had been buried 1 1/2 years earlier. No tears. Not much to say. Just her usual cheerful self.

So far Molly is a strange little fish. She buries herself under the new rocks and hides. We hope she adjusts to her new home soon and grows beautiful long fins. And we hope mommy can remember the drops and keep her alive!
